Pretty Peppermints debut~

Hye lovelies~

This is a Pretty Peppermints post :) We are excited and at the same time nervous since this is our first post and since this is still a new blog shop. However, we can’t wait to start the gear for this particular category.

So what exactly is Pretty Peppermints?

Make up tips + beauty info + writing = Pretty Peppermints.

Yes, all of the above are things we absolutely love love love, hence combined all in one and posted under Pretty Peppermints~

We will be using "I" instead of "we" since this column is mostly written by Sarah ^^

Pretty Peppermints #1

Hye all, since this is the first post, I would like to share with you a very BASIC and IMPORTANT info to all of the ladies (guys too) that you should never take for granted.

The importance of SUNSCREEN.

For a hot country like Malaysia where the sun shines throughout the year, it is important to put on sun screen regardless what colour your skin tone is. Contrary to popular belief, if you have darker skin you need not put any protection on since the melanin in your skin will not make you suffer sun burns and the sort like the fair-skinned, the sun rays can actually expose you to skin cancer regardless the colour of your skin tone. Even under indirect sun (eg.while driving) you NEED to apply sunscreen.

Things to know:
  • SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor.
  • A sunscreen with an SPF of 15 filters 92% of the UVB which means SPF of 15 will delay the onset of a sunburn in a person who would otherwise burn in 10 minutes to burn in 150 minutes. (Extracted from: dermatology.about.com)
  • According to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), sunscreen must last for a period of three years.
Things to look out for when buying sunscreen:
  • Find the ones that protects against UVA/UVB or Broad Spectrum
  • The minimum SPF you should get is SPF 15, but since it’s the most minimum, you need to reapply more frequently compared to SPF 45.
  • If you are prone to skin breakouts, get the ones that do not clog the pores (read the label)
Important note:
  • There are some types of sunscreen on the local market that are heavyweight and lightweight. Some have it stated on the labels but some do not, so I guess you will have to find that out first hand. If you ask which is better, that depends on what you prefer individually.
  • And most important, if you wear a sunscreen that is SPF15 and layer a powder or foundation that has SPF 30, you won’t get a total of SPF 45. Instead, you’ll only be protected up to the highest level of SPF.
So, don’t forget to put your sunscreen on when you go outside. Harmful sunrays can cause skin cancer and premature ageing.

Till next time lovelies~

Much Love,
S.
