Pretty Peppermints #6

Hi lovelies~

This is a Pretty Peppermints post! About time huh? Anyways, we are in the second week of the fasting month and I hope everyone is doing OK and going for tarawih prayers, yes? Do keep up the good work as Ramadhan only comes around once a year :) Speaking of 2nd week of Ramadhan, I am sure most of us are now busy preparing and getting things ready for Eid. Better still, I am quite postive half of us have gotten Eid shopping done, which is pretty fly I must say because last minute shopping is tiring and can get crazy at times. As for me, I have all of my Eid attire checked but the only thing I am still missing is a few make-up essentials. New blusher, compact powder and eye liner is what will complete my list. Currently I am using Maybelline's Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner which has been out on the market since last year if I'm not mistaken.

It took me quite some time to get this eyeliner actually coz I was not convinced enough to get it when it hit the market. However earlier this year I finally purchased it out of curiosity :3

Things I have to say about this Eyeliner:
  • I LOVE the thick intense black colour of this eyeliner
  • It is really easy to apply on the lids, only it needs a few adjusting periods to get used to it
  • It is not as stubborn as liquid eyeliners tend to get when removing
  • Effect this eyeliner leaves is actually nicer and neater- a more polished look
  • It is safe for contact lens wearers (Yeay!)
However, this eyeliner has some down sides that made me frown quite a bit:
  • It smudges
  • It does last actually, but after 4-5 hours I find that the tip/end of the liner will fade/smudge easily. I don't think my eyelids are oily, but maybe it did secrete some amount of oil after some time, so perhaps that explains the smudge
  • The brush is a bit on the cheap side - I am not surprised it become quite bad after some time
  • It takes some time to dry after application
  • It is quite a hassle to use this product because it comes in a separate jar, brush, etc. It takes quite an effort
The final verdict: I love this gel liner, but the down side of this product really does bug me. I would prefer if I Maybelline comes out with a gel liner that is easier to apply, as I am the type that is on-the-go a lot of the times.

Final say: Out of the years I have been wearing eyeliner, I have to say that my most unforgettable eyeliner purchase was, if I recall correctly, Revlon's Liquid Colour Stay Liner. It had the effect very similar to this gel liner and it did not leave a shiny and fake effect as other liquid eyeliners tend to show. It did not smudge and it was easy to remove. I purchased this back in 2006 and have never found it again ever since. Nonetheless, my search for the perfect eyeliner will still be on and I will not give up! I will update on the next eyeliner I purchase :)

Till next time lovelies~

Much Love,
S.

Pretty Peppermints #5

Helo lovelies~

Missed us much?

Not any more, as we bring you an important note and reminder for everyone and it is not to be missed!

Pretty Peppermints #5

Drink 8 glasses of water per day

We all want smooth, soft, unblemished skin. But sometimes it seems like great skin is either something you’re born with or something you’ll never achieve. With the technology we have today, so many things can be done to make us achieve the porcelain blemish free skin and many are willing to spend thousands for this. But a few things in life that everybody takes no or little notice of is, the cheaper way to clear, radiant skin. It is the most wonderful skin care treatments that is easily available to everyone, has side benefits that affects not just your rosy glow but your whole body, and is utterly painless to use.

It’s called water, and you drink it.

Water is important to the mechanics of the human body. The body cannot work without it, just as a car cannot run without gas and oil. In fact, all the cell and organ functions made up in our entire anatomy and physiology depend on water for their functioning.

  • Water serves as a lubricant
  • Water forms the base for saliva
  • Water forms the fluids that surround the joints.
  • Water regulates the body temperature, as the cooling and heating is distributed through perspiration.
  • Water helps to alleviate constipation by moving food through the intestinal tract and thereby eliminating waste- the best detox agent.
  • Regulates metabolism

Drinking eight glasses of water daily can decrease the risk of colon cancer by 45%, bladder cancer by 50% and it can potentially even reduce the risk of breast cancer, and the list goes on!

However, if you are not an avid drinker, it could cause you a few/ a lot of trips to the bathroom for the first few times. But the body will soon adapt to this new habit and you’ll be good in no time. I was among the few who faced trouble in reaching the 8 glasses per day drink. So here I will share with you what I did to reach my goal of 8 glasses of water per day:-By taking smaller portions throughout the day. Two glasses in the morning, two glasses for lunch, two glasses in the evening and lastly, two glasses at night, and voila, lucky number 8 in the end!

Another important info I would like to share, is that the timing of you drinking the water could also maximize the effectiveness to the human body (you)

Two (02) glass of water after waking up - Helps activate internal organs

One (01) glasses of water 30 minutes before meal - Help digestion

One (01) glass of water before taking a bath - Helps lower blood pressure

One (01) glass of water before sleep - To avoid stroke or heart attack

So, by drinking water,

  1. you get to make sure everything in your body functions well since water makes up more than two thirds of the weight of the human body and its vital for our well being
  2. get NUMEROUS health benefits
  3. get rewarded a great skin complexion as well as reduction in under eye circle
  4. and oh, have I mentioned that many women have found that heavy menstrual cycle is eased by increasing their water intake.

Seriously, we have nothing to lose by drinking water. Water as in plain water though, as coffees and teas as well as carbonated drinks are filled with chemicals and caffeine which will only cause tired-looking, drawn-out hazed complexion.

Till next time, do get your dose of plain water yeah?

Much love,

S.

Pretty Peppermints #4

Hey lovelies~

It's been a while since we did our last Pretty Peppermints, so here we are again, and this time, we bring you a very useful make up tip.

Pretty Peppermints #4

Hye all,

February is just around the corner, and aren't we all excited since there will be so much celebrations during this month. Hari Wilayah, Maulidur Rasul, Chinese new year, Valentines day (for those celebrating).
I bet a lot of us would be making ourselves pretty for these festivities, however, eventually we would all have to take these make up off, would we not? So, in Peppermints #4, I would like to share with you, one of my all-time-favourite clip, on removing the toughest and trickiest make up of all - the make up of the eyes. Eyes are the features we love to enhance and don all the make up. But beautifully enhanced eyes comes with a curse. Like all make up, it has to all come of by the end of the day. However, the trickiest thing for eye make up is that you can never! put too much pressure on removing it as the areas around the eyes are one of the most sensitive part on the face :( To make matters worse, one eye make up I absolutely love is the MASCARA. Though I am blessed with long lashes, I just love how the mascara adds colour, volume and drama ;) Like all the other eye make ups, mascaras are hard and tricky to remove. Hardest if you ask me. I know this first hand and I have sacrificed eyelashes for this. That is until I found this technique. Check it out here.

It is the only technique I have been using ever since. And best of all, it works! Hope you guys try it out, and let me know if you know any other better ways!^^

Much love,
S.

Pretty Peppermints #2

Hye lovelies~

First of all, we would like to wish everyone a happy new year! May this new year be joyful and prosperous for all of us ;)

Pretty Peppermints #2

Hye all :)

Todays entry will be about a product I love and it's something I always carry around.LIP BALM.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of lipstick and never liked using it so much so I opt for the alternative which is lip balm. But mind you, not just ANY lip balm.

It's T-H-E lip balm.

I have always fancied lip balms that gives colour tint as well as moisturize. Products that offer the best of both worlds (hint of colour + moisturizing lip balm) is all you need to looking great without over doing it. Great for everyday use ;)

Below I would like to share with you a new tinted lip balm in town, and the one I have always been using.

Maybelline New York Lip Smooth Color and Care

*the new lip balm on the market*
  • available in 3 different shades and flavour - Rose, Cherry, Strawberry
  • RM9.90
  • The stick color depends on the flavours, but all three are in the red shades
  • I just LOVE the design and colours of the packaging ^^

Mentholatum Lip Ice Sheer Color

  • Available in 2 different flavours - Strawberry and natural
  • RM12.90
  • The stick color is white
  • Gives a mentholatum effect, leaving your lips feeling refreshed ;)

Thats all for this week, till next time lovelies~

Much Love,
S.

Pretty Peppermints debut~

Hye lovelies~

This is a Pretty Peppermints post :) We are excited and at the same time nervous since this is our first post and since this is still a new blog shop. However, we can’t wait to start the gear for this particular category.

So what exactly is Pretty Peppermints?

Make up tips + beauty info + writing = Pretty Peppermints.

Yes, all of the above are things we absolutely love love love, hence combined all in one and posted under Pretty Peppermints~

We will be using "I" instead of "we" since this column is mostly written by Sarah ^^

Pretty Peppermints #1

Hye all, since this is the first post, I would like to share with you a very BASIC and IMPORTANT info to all of the ladies (guys too) that you should never take for granted.

The importance of SUNSCREEN.

For a hot country like Malaysia where the sun shines throughout the year, it is important to put on sun screen regardless what colour your skin tone is. Contrary to popular belief, if you have darker skin you need not put any protection on since the melanin in your skin will not make you suffer sun burns and the sort like the fair-skinned, the sun rays can actually expose you to skin cancer regardless the colour of your skin tone. Even under indirect sun (eg.while driving) you NEED to apply sunscreen.

Things to know:
  • SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor.
  • A sunscreen with an SPF of 15 filters 92% of the UVB which means SPF of 15 will delay the onset of a sunburn in a person who would otherwise burn in 10 minutes to burn in 150 minutes. (Extracted from: dermatology.about.com)
  • According to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), sunscreen must last for a period of three years.
Things to look out for when buying sunscreen:
  • Find the ones that protects against UVA/UVB or Broad Spectrum
  • The minimum SPF you should get is SPF 15, but since it’s the most minimum, you need to reapply more frequently compared to SPF 45.
  • If you are prone to skin breakouts, get the ones that do not clog the pores (read the label)
Important note:
  • There are some types of sunscreen on the local market that are heavyweight and lightweight. Some have it stated on the labels but some do not, so I guess you will have to find that out first hand. If you ask which is better, that depends on what you prefer individually.
  • And most important, if you wear a sunscreen that is SPF15 and layer a powder or foundation that has SPF 30, you won’t get a total of SPF 45. Instead, you’ll only be protected up to the highest level of SPF.
So, don’t forget to put your sunscreen on when you go outside. Harmful sunrays can cause skin cancer and premature ageing.

Till next time lovelies~

Much Love,
S.
